Mathare Roots Youth Group is a non-governmental, non-religious, non-political, community based organization established by a group of young men and women of the Mathare Slums to change the lifestyle of young people in the slums. They do this by creating effective awareness about HIV/AIDS, drug abuse, and their interactions.

Mathare Youth Sports Association (MYSA) is a self-help youth programme linking sports with environmental cleanups, AIDS prevention, leadership training and other community service activities involving approximately twenty thousand young people.
